Podolje Castle
Samobor
Built in the valley of Lipovečka Gradna in close proximity to old medieval town of Samobor. The earliest information regarding the manor-house date back to 15th/16th centuries. In course of 16th, 17th and 19th centuries, the house was extended. The dates cut on the lintel (1667) and keystone of the portal (1590) at the entrance attest to the partitions and reconstructions.
The house is singled out as one of the most valuable manor-houses in the Samobor area, and one of few surviving examples of secular architecture continually in the ownership of the same family. Originally, the house must have been utilised as quarters by the 30-man military unit, for the first known owners of Podolje, the family of nobleman Szaich de Pernice were related to the “royal 30-man squad”.
The present owners of the manor-house came into possession of Podolje in 1779, when Petar Praunsperger, a former protonotary of Varaždin County, married Viktorija Szaich de Pernice, who owned the manor-house and the estate.
