Januševec Castle
Zaprešić
Januševec castle is the highest moment of the Classicistic architecture in Croatia. The castle is located on the slope over the Sava river valley, on the crossroads Zaprešić - Harmica and the road to Marija Gorica. It is believed that the castle was designed by Bartolomej Felbinger, one of the most famous architects of the 19th century in Zagreb and the surrounding area. The castle has the highest monument value category and was build for the baron Josip Vrkljan (Werklein) in 1830. In 1845 the castle was bought by the French count Edgar de Corberon and later had several other owners: count Dümreicher, Max Mayer and Manfred Sternberg between the two world wars. The castle was renovated from 1947 to 1989 and a portion of the Croatian Federal Archives is stored there.
