Church of St. Vitus

The Church of St. Vitus was first mentioned as a parish church in 1334 and renovated in the 18th century. It has a preserved Baroque altar from 1776 and some paintings from the same period. The bell tower with gun holes and a southern addition with especially thick walls witness that this church was one of the many forts for protecting local people at the time of the Turkish invasion. The round Chapel of St. Barbara was added in the 18th century as a rare example of a round floor plan. This chapel is associated with the story of the galenite mines owned by the French count Carion at the foot of the western hills of the Medvednica mountain in Bistra and the protector of miners, St. Barbara, who was worshipped there.
