Nature park Žumberak - Samobor hills encompasses about 350 km2 and was declared a nature park on May 28, 1999. It is a separate mountainous area, to the southwest of Zagreb and includes the surroundings of Samobor, Jastrebarsko, Ozalj, Klinča Selo, Žumberak and Krašić. The park is governed by a public institution founded by the Government of the Republic of Croatia in 1999 with the purpose of protecting, preserving, evaluating and presenting natural, cultural and historic values of the Samobor and Žumberak hills and priorities of preserving the biological and landscape (visual) versatility. The nature park's center is the Eco-center Slani Dol, where visitors may obtain all necessary information on work days, see the educational and visually very attractive exhibition and drink some herbal tea. There is a 35 km long hiking Trail of the Queen Beech from Slani Dol to Sošice, as well as the educational Trail of the Dukes, 4 km long in the vicinity of the Eco-center Budinjak and the exhibition of archeological and biological particularities of the Žumberak area. In September there are workshops called "The Thousand Year Cuisine". The park maintains four bike trails: Trail of the Fairies, Trail of the Bats, Trail of the Waterfalls and Trail Sveta Gera.
